I am a qualified History teacher and have been tutoring on MyTutor since 2016. I've tutored both part-time and full-time during this period. In July 2023, I achieved my PGCE in Secondary Education, and before this, I graduated with a First Class degree in History and Politics from the University of Warwick in 2019. I have tutored both of these subjects on MyTutor, but currently only offer A Level Politics. In addition to my teaching experience, I have also gained over 2 years of educational experience as a Teaching Assistant in mainstream secondary and special needs settings.
Having completed over 500 hours of tutoring, I have developed a confident teaching style and an approach to tutoring that I have made my own. I have experience teaching students of a variety of abilities, from boosting a student's grade from an E to a C, to working with one student over the course of 18 months to improve her confidence in a subject she did not hugely enjoy, allowing her to increase her grade from a C to an A. I really take pride in my tutoring and will put in the hours to help students succeed.
Outside of academia, my hobbies include playing the piano, reading fiction, and going on long country walks.
1) A Personal and Friendly Tutor-Student Relationship
If this does not work, nothing else will. My style is informal and conversational as I believe this allows students to speak easily and thus understand complex ideas. For me, the student's opinions about the content are an essential component in their engagement. My aim is the create a relaxing educational environment where students are not intimidated by the process of learning but genuinely interested in it.

2) A Structured Approach to Learning
Breaking detailed information into manageable chunks and relating them together in a coherent manner is just as important as the manner in which we discuss them. Organisation and clarity are key to my teaching, both in terms of resources and explanation.
3) Creativity
Learning should be different every day. The great advantage of one-to-one tutoring is that the process can be tailored to the student's preferences and needs. I like to use a variety of resources in my lessons: diagrams, quizzes, dialogue, online articles, past papers and more. All of these elements - with emphasis on approaches that the student feels most comfortable with at first - combine to create a varied and, hopefully, fun environment for learning. After all, enjoying education is the most reliable way to succeed in it.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 8 becomes a tutor on our site.
