Hi! I'm Sophie. I have an undergraduate degree BSc in Marine Biology from the University of St Andrews (June 2021), and a master's degree MSc Wildlife Biology and Conservation from Edinburgh Napier University. I am a patient and approachable individual with four years of maths and science tutoring experience. As someone who had a maths tutor myself during my Higher and Advanced Higher maths courses at school, I know how to ensure my pupils consolidate on their learning and improve their confidence. Confidence is key! I understand that asking questions can be scary, but it's the best way to learn, and I encourage all of my pupils to ask as many questions as they like - if you're wondering what the answer is, it's likely that someone else is too! Each session will be based on a topic of the student's choice. I adapt each lesson to the student's learning style but my rough outline of a lesson is as follows:

Discuss the topic you're struggling with and what the best way to tackle the issues are I'll talk through the topic and work through examples of questions Then we will work through examples together to ensure you understand the content. I then ask you to work through some examples to consolidate your knowledge. Once you have a good knowledge and understanding we can work through past exam papers and the trickier questions. Closer to exam time, I often also do lessons focusing on exam technique - knowing how to pick up those final marks from questions is key.
