Hello! I’m a 2023 graduate of English at Cambridge University with a predicted First Class degree. For me, tutoring is all about creating a positive and open-minded learning environment, where the unique interests of each student can flourish. Everyone learns differently, so my sessions are tailored to my tutees’ preferred learning methods (and can even help them discover their most enjoyable and effective way to revise), equipping them with a curious and confident mindset with which they can then approach their further studies. We would encompass anything from coursework/exam preparation to recommending further reading or interview technique.
Studying Practical Criticism and specialising in lyric poetry has allowed me to develop specific close-reading techniques, crucial for the unseen texts given at GCSE/A Level/IB exams. I know how intimidating these can be, but I’ve grown to love the challenge of crafting an argumentative thread under time pressure, and hope to instil the same excitement and confidence into my students. I have a wide background in theatre and music and would love to offer any guidance as to how students might pursue these interests whilst studying at university, or how they might incorporate them into their degree and/or personal statement. I’ve written dissertations on the poetry of Frank O'Hara and the plays of Ben Jonson, and specialised in writings on love, gender and sexuality in the 18th century, and on lyric poetry. I look forward to meeting you!
