I’m Hamish, a 24-year-old first class philosophy graduate from the University of Glasgow.
I have over 2 years’ experience tutoring online with MyTutor. I have a strong track record teaching English Language and Literature, History, Politics/Modern studies and Philosophy. I am experienced with the History and English GCSE and A-level curriculums (particularly the AQA exam board). I’m also familiar with Nat 5, Higher and Advanced Higher as I went through Scottish schools myself. I also have a long-standing history of teaching neurodivergent students (ADHD and autism).
In my spare time I like to read, travel and play sports (especially lacrosse and football!)
I like to prepare my lessons ahead of time, and plan around the individual student. I like to start and end my lessons with short periods of informal chat, reflection and recap; I also like to take a short break in the middle of the session which I’ve found improves overall focus. Above all though, I take care to shape the lesson according to my students’ needs.

I like to measure progress by repeating similar tasks over time to take stock. And to encourage learning, I like to reward good effort by giving students more choice over future tasks.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 8 becomes a tutor on our site.
