Hello, my name is Hamza, I am currently 24 years old, and I was raised in Switzerland. I am a student at Imperial College London studying Material Science and Engineering. I did the IB programme, so trust me I know the stresses students encounter when it comes to juggling internal assessments, extended essays, TOK essays and exams. But, I always try to stay positive no matter the stress, and it is an approach I bring to teaching as well, whether your test or exam is a week away, or the next day (trust me we’ve all been there), I will try to keep you calm and get as much information through to you as possible, so that you can perform at your very best.
I chose to teach Math, Physics and Chemsitry from 11-year olds all the way to A level or IB students, not only because they were subjects that I excelled at and have had experience with teaching in the past. More so because they are subjects that most students struggle to get their heads around, especially Maths, and eventually they get deterred from studying them at university, which is a great shame, especially now since we are in great need of scientific and technological innovation. Therefore, my goal with tutoring is to teach, but also make it an enjoyable and enthusiastic experience, and develop curiosity amongst my students, to make them pursue STEM based careers for their own and societies benefit. Also, for any IB students I am more than happy to give advice on how to get 40+ on your exams.
For me, honesty is the best policy. If you do not understand, then I will find multiple ways to explain, using any analogies or examples. I’m also very flexible, and willing to change my teaching methods to suit my tutee. Patience is another important factor that I take very seriously. I try to keep my students very calm no matter what the stress, and don’t mind dedicating extra time for research, to ensure that my students are kept up to date with any topics, exams or assessments. I try to keep my students very calm no matter what the stress, and don’t mind dedicating extra time for research, to ensure that my students are kept up to date with any topics, exams or assessments. As a previous IB student, I have had many good and bad experiences of my own, with essays, tests, mock exams and final exams. I am more than willing to give advice and support to any individual struggling from stress or work overload.
My tutorials structure:
Get to know student’s academic background, and the area of problem. In particular, what exam board they will be sitting, what subjects they are pursuing and what topic they are struggling with.Become acclimated to the students learning methods, for example, does the student prefer visual or verbal representations of the same concept.Quickly recap on what the student has already learnt to get into context of the topic.Work through an example and clarify any questions that arise.Go through some theory and give the tutee a problem to work on alone without guidance, and if no problem arises, the tuition has been successful.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 8 becomes a tutor on our site.
